Live Now: A Magic Pens (and Paintbrushes) Collaboration
almost 3 years ago – Fri, May 28, 2021 at 10:19:05 AM

Hello! We hope you are well. We hope Community of Magic Pens brought you some joy. It released in a time that was tremendously difficult, yet the magic of that same community gave us the hope and the strength to keep going, through it all. We see you and appreciate you.

We are really excited to present to you a collaboration from the Magic Pens community. Emily has been working with Romanian author Ava Kelly (“The Confessionist”) as well as a Michigan artist with very magic paintbrushes, Matthew Spencer, on a fairy tale book that celebrates nonbinary genders, aromanticism, and personal happiness. These fairy tales will be published in side-by-side English and Romanian, with beautiful, rich illustrations.

We hope you’ll join us for Alia Terra – Stories from the Dragon Realm https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/atthisarts/alia-terra. Plus we are super excited about the exclusive items we are offering, such as a woven cotton Romanian bookmark in traditional colors, an exclusive dragon D20, art cards, a behind-the-scenes artbook, a story, and a recording. We’re so proud of what we’ve put together and hope you’ll give it a look. And if you like it, sharing and letting people know helps so very, very much!

We’ve passed the minimum now, so the book is happening, and now we hope to get the project seen so we can complete the illustrations. All pre-orders will help us add more art to the book! (And support a really cool artist, who believed in this project and our little press enough to partner with us for this campaign. ♥)

Sending our best wishes for you and yours,

The Team at Atthis Arts.

Welcome to Alia Terra!

We have a big surprise that we hope you’ll like. (And your support means so much right now!) Four Midwest US presses have partnered to offer the Midwest Spec-Fic Book Box. We hope you’ll check it out; these are super books. Big names, Big adventures, big Midwest love. Keep some; give some, and don’t miss the special coupons, swag, and surprises.

And letting people know about this offer helps a lot! Here’s the link to check out and share:

The Box will only be available for order through 20 November. Also, we love our Canadian neighbors and our readers and supporters around the world—but this box only ships in the Contiguous United States. It’s a big box!

We have more announcements on the way – and we won’t normally post these to Kickstarter. We’d love for you to follow us on Facebook, Twitter, or join our email list at atthisarts.com.

We are sending all of you our warmest wishes. Thanks for supporting indie fiction!

An important and timely project
over 3 years ago – Tue, Oct 06, 2020 at 09:55:27 AM

Emily here. First, I will not be doing one of my anthologies this year. Not only have I struggled quite seriously with mental health over the year, but the pandemic has hit us financially - I still have many boxes of Community of Magic Pens that never got to see all the events I had scheduled for them. So I am hopeful for brighter days for all of us.

Yet, sometimes the universe steps in.

Instead, if funded, we will be publishing a Black Lives Matter related anthology: In This Moment.

In This Moment is a collection of fiction and nonfiction documenting the art and expression of the 2020 uprisings, both for the emotions of today, and for the education and study of tomorrow. It is edited by Indianapolis Afrofuturist Maurice Broaddus, and we are incredibly excited about the contributors signing on for this project. We hope you will be too.

If funded, there will be open submissions. You know that I like fully open-submissions, but this model makes sense for this project (as well as for our financial situation), and the voices who have agreed to participate are...so awesome. You've got to go see the list.

I very much feel the responsibility of being trusted with this project. But it will only happen if we fund, and for that we will need your help. Please, give this campaign a look – and anything you can do to spread the word would be very appreciated. We know it’s a busy and important time, but that’s also the point. Thank you for your support!

Pledges start at a dollar, and all spreading the word helps a ton. Here's the link:

New (2020-friendly) releases!
over 3 years ago – Tue, Aug 18, 2020 at 10:16:12 AM

Atthis Arts has two new releases related to Community of Magic Pens.

We know many people are having trouble focusing - both of these books are short, without too many characters, and keep moving along—so perhaps they will offer you that joy of reading, a distraction, a burst of power, or whatever else that you need. They are 2020-friendly books in many different ways, and we really hope you'll enjoy them.

The Dragon of Ynys

First, Belgian author Minerva Cerridwen ("Memory Malfunction") has written a queer fairy tale for all ages.

“This is the fairy tale I wish I could have had as a child. Now I've written it for all of us.” – Minerva Cerridwen

This fairy tale, about a knight and a dragon on an adventure, celebrates inclusion and kindness. It’s funny, and it's sweet, and for readers of any age. The Dragon of Ynys is friendly to queer audiences across LGBTQIA+ with trans, lesbian, ace, and aro characters. As with all of our titles, content notes are available on the website.

https://atthisarts.com/products/the-dragon-of-ynys/

If you pre-order the paperback from our website, you’ll receive the e-book right now, and we'll ship the print book prior to the 15 September release. It’s also available for pre-order from major retailers, with links on the website. And we are proud to feature a collector’s cover illustrated by Finnish artist Ulla Thynell.

One note: If you’ve heard of this book before, there’s a reason! This book was previously published by a now-closed press. This 2020 edition has been completely revised, and features an all-new Epilogue and Afterword. We hope that you’ll love it.

Lord's Dome

Next, editor E.D.E. Bell surprise-released a new book in 2020 style last week. Her slipstream fantasy short novel crosses at least a dozen genres, and we believe it should appeal to both fantasy readers and those who normally aren't fantasy readers alike.

Lord's Dome is a story about a girl who doesn’t accept the way things are, and the woman who must decide whether to help her. It is truth and strength and determination and hope. We hope you will enjoy it.

If you'd like a signed copy, (and also the ebook), order it direct from our website - just put in the order details if/how you'd like it signed and personalized. (Note: signatures only apply to Bell's book.)

While the book is mostly gentle, there are some content notes on the website, which you may want to check particularly if you are sensitive about children or religion in stories.

Thank you!

We hope that these lovingly crafted stories bring you a little joy this summer (or winter)! Thank you so much for supporting indie fiction. ❤️

A Magic Bird! Perhaps for you? (Well, we think they're magic.)
almost 4 years ago – Mon, Jun 22, 2020 at 09:12:36 AM

Hello! We hope you are enjoying the stories in Community of Magic Pens. We couldn't be more honored to have worked with this amazing group of writers (and beautiful, just good people too!) and we are so thrilled that their stories are out, across this Earth, being read and enjoyed. Thank you again, so much for your support – and for supporting indie fiction.

It’s shaping up to be a tough year, as you know, for so many of us in different and important ways but specific to our indie press also—of course all of our in-person sales events for this book were cancelled and now some of our online ones as well. But we aren’t giving up. One small symbol of that, and one that will hopefully help pay a few of our mounting bills, is an enamel pin campaign we are running based on our little logo.

On the campaign page, Emily put together a little description of what this little bird means to us—and what it could mean to you. We hope that you’ll check it out - and also that, if you like it, you'll spread the word. Letting others know who might enjoy it is a huge help to us, especially right now when with so much going on in the world there is only so much direct promotion that we can do. ♥

Little Hummingbird Hard Enamel Pins

Thanks again for supporting indie fiction. Whatever you are going through out there, our thoughts and hopes are with each of you for brighter days and better futures. And wherever you are now, we hope there is a ray of sun, a moment of laughter, or colorful flower that you will enjoy today.
